March 30, 2020 update:
I just finished watching Governor Reynolds' press conference, and she has issued no new guidance on school closure. She did say she is anticipating more formal guidance from Washington, D.C. in the days to come.
***Many thanks to Tyson Foods for their donation of frozen chicken products. This will be a huge help to our meal distribution program.
***Remember our school parade starts at 1:30 tomorrow. See the following link for specific times and routes.
https://www.wapello.k12.ia.us/wapello-csd-wave-parade-route. And remember to practice SOCIAL DISTANCING.
***Our virtual Spirit Week continues tomorrow with Explore Science. Create your own science experiment. Find an experiment online. Learn. Explore. Discover. And be sure to share whatever you do. Let's flood the net with pictures of science in action!
***It wouldn't be an update if we didn't include the Governor's recommendations:
Wash your hands.
Cover your cough.
Wash your hands.
Stay home if you are sick.
Wash your hands.
Practice social distancing.
Wash your hands.

The staff at Wapello Community Schools have organized a "Wave Parade" for students on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at beginning at 1:30 p.m. We have put together our route and approximate times that the staff will visit neighborhoods in Wapello, Morning Sun, and Oakville. We hope all of our students can find their way to the route to wave at the staff! The staff is really missing all of the students and would love to give everyone a wave and a horn honk to let them know we are missing them. Check out our website for all of the details! https://www.wapello.k12.ia.us/wapello-csd-wave-parade-route

March 27, 2020 update:
And week two of school closure comes to an end...
1. Tyson Foods is donating 40,000 pounds of food to county schools to help during this time. This will be put toward our school lunch distribution. Many thanks to Tyson!
2. A reminder that Governor Reynolds has not given any indication that school will be closed for a longer period of time than what she has originally set. If you are hearing differently, it is only a rumor.
3. A clarification from yesterday. April 13 is the first day schools can reopen. April 13th is currently a vacation day (Easter Monday). Therefore, barring board action, the first day back for staff and students would be April 14th.
4. Continued thanks to those staff members who are working to distribute food, both through our food pantry and through our breakfast/lunch program. The need for this continues to grow.
5. On top of everything else, there is bad weather moving into the area this week. Stay alert and stay safe.
6. Finally, be watching for a post later this evening detailing plans for a virtual School Spirit Week starting on Monday, March 30th.
As always...
Wash your hands.
Cover your cough.
Wash your hands.
Stay home if you are sick.
Wash your hands.
Practice social distancing.
Wash your hands.
Let me know if you have any questions. If I don't know the answer, I will find out and send out the information in a future update.

March 26, 2020 update:
Governor Reynolds put some more restrictions in place for businesses today, but no change in the guidance given to schools. There are all sorts of rumors floating around right now. Currently, we are all planning on coming back to school on April 13.
As always, we will follow the guidance given to us by Governor Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Public Health. And the best way to keep us coming back to school on the 13th is to follow the guidance we have all been given:
Wash your hands.
Cover your cough.
Wash your hands.
Stay home if you are sick.
Wash your hands.
Practice social distancing.
Wash your hands.
Parents want the kids back in schools. Educators want the kids back in the school. Even the kids want to be back in school, even if they might not admit it out loud!
