Wapello MS/HS Plans "My Hometown Day" Activities for Community Service

Wapello Middle School/High School students are gearing up for a special day of community service on Wednesday, April 29th, as they participate in “My Hometown Day” activities. The event aims to give back to the local communities of Wapello, Morning Sun, Cairo, and Oakville, with students engaged in cleanup efforts throughout these areas.

Students will spend the day working on various tasks such as picking up trash, raking leaves, and sprucing up public parks and roadways. The initiative is part of a broader effort to honor “Earth Day” by contributing to the maintenance and beauty of the surrounding communities.

In addition to public spaces, the students are also offering their assistance to individuals who may need help with yard work. Whether it’s raking leaves or tidying up outdoor spaces, this service is being provided at no charge to residents.
Community members with projects that need attention are encouraged to contact the Wapello High School office at 319-523-3241 to arrange for students to assist.

The service project is a wonderful example of the school's commitment to fostering civic responsibility and environmental stewardship among our students.

An update from junior high honor choir at LM. We are currently sheltering in the locker rooms in the school. All students are safe. I am unsure if we will continue the concert once this passes. I will update when I know more. -Mrs. Swope

Kindergarten has been busy the last couple of weeks learning, exploring, and playing! Our presenters and visitors have included Kaitlyn Hunt for Junior Achievement, Kara Veach from Great Prairie AEA for reading lessons during small groups, and Carter Wagg with Farm Bureau teaching us about the life cycle of chickens. We also had a lot of fun winning challenges and learning a lot about our friends with autism in the process. We celebrated our win with an extra recess and popsicles! Thank you to Mrs. Alyson Smith for organizing the activities last week. And today is FIELD TRIP DAY!
